PHILIPPE KALUSZYNER
"In a single gesture, hiding and revealing oneself. Making disappear and revealing. His truth. It is the singular art of Philippe Kaluszyner to have invented this way of painting that resembles only him. He proceeds in layers, in successive layers. An artist often erases his second thoughts, he adds them. By dint of erasing himself, he appears in all his strength and seems surprised to appear this way. It is this astonishment that is given to us to see. This constant discovery of oneself.
Art rarely invents, but Kaluszyner is one of those inventors. An inventor perhaps for lack of a better term, an inventor because he cannot do otherwise, like Cézanne, who, clumsy at first, must step through the looking glass to become the singular genius we know. Another contradiction emanates from Philippe Kaluszyner's works; they possess a gentleness and a violence, of which it is difficult to say which dominates. Shock or caress?
We always want to associate an artist with a school. But which school should we associate Cézanne with? Impressionism? He escapes from it. Cubism? It precedes it. Cézannism, then, if such a term existed.
He opens doors... a door... and it's so rare that we must salute him. And also salute that an inventor also knows how to move us so deeply. Because without emotion there is no art. And Philippe Kaluszyner is a true artist. I would like to temper my enthusiasm. But why? After all, it's so good to be able to be so enthusiastic about an artist. And so rare."

In your work, you seem to have difficulty getting the slightest
word !
Philippe Kaluszyner
I prefer to paint, of course. There are things I can only express through that.

Since when?
PK
Since my discovery of COBRA! Polish originobliges, I was friends, a bit, with Alechinsky's son. We went to the workshop, he showed me things, it was good! Afterwards, I liked Asger Jorn even better, it's more visceral!
