Médéric BOTTIN
2022 Winner of the Taylor Foundation KIYOSHI HASEGAWA Printmaking Prize
Médéric BOTTIN was born in 1963 in Val de Marne.
There is in the expression of this painter and wood engraver a gentleness and candor combined with a force of representation.
Its color harmonies are refined and balanced despite a palette of pure hues.
His poetic universe can recall a lost paradise or an original state from which he draws something essential.
Wood engraving allows him to highlight the quality of his drawing and is in keeping with his concern for solidity and expression in representation.
"Women, birds, garlands of flowers and fruit, naked lovers, snakes, and even a bottle! No doubt about it, we are in paradise. But be careful, here as elsewhere, hell is never far from the enchanted garden... One step to the side, one misconduct, one wrong look and it's disaster. The moralists are there to remind us of this and warn us of the dangers that await us around the bends of the path."
