From April 6 to May 7, the AVM gallery will present an exhibition entitled "Red Carpet Josephine," a series of paintings by Ealy Mays, an American artist who has lived in Paris since the late 1990s.

Ealy Mays (born January 15, 1959) is acontemporary African-American artistbased inParisHis work has been exhibited at the Galeria Clave in Mexico City,at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, at the annual José Clemente Orozco art competitionfrom Mexico City and the museumGuggenheimof New York, to name a few. The legendary painterHenry O. Tannerwas the first African American to exhibit at the Louvre in 1897. Mays's 2005 exhibition "Migration of Superheroes" at theLouvre Carouselmakes him one of the few African-American artists to date to follow in Tanner's footsteps. at the Louvre.
Mays counts Jacob Lawrence, Jackson Pollock, Maxfield Parrish, Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, Rufino Tamayo, Herbert Gentry, Edward Clark (artist), and Franz Kline as mentors.
A resident of Paris for 15 years, he is a permanent recurring resident at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris and a former student of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine.
