Jose San Martin

JOSE SAN MARTIN

"I come from the sea, I need the horizon" says José San Martin to remind us that he was born "between the sea, mountains and forests",Vilagarcia de Arousa, natural port ofSantiago de Compostela. It is in fact since childhood and his need for horizons, confirms Frederik Reitz, that José San Martin "has possessed the sense of lines and architecture, this sensetypographicso particular which is due to what we call thecomposition"When he was 10 years old, his parents decided to settle in France where he studied architecture.

While José San Martin's work is divided into three modes of expression, which could also be divided into three periods of life, even though it reflects the quest of an artist always searching for the most diverse techniques and materials, Frederik Reitz does not fail to emphasize its coherence. A hieratic work where puppets wander among rebuses, labyrinths, symbols, letters or words to express the presence of a hidden meaning, a work in "three" and yet structured, "where a very living unity reigns without one being able to say the diffuse origin of its surge."
